Our pack's first day trip this year should be a lot of fun! Longhorn Caverns State Park is located a short distance away, near Burnet, Tx (about 1 hour drive). We will have a private tour of the caverns right after lunch. Plan on meeting up ahead of time for a picnic lunch and have some fun enjoying the park. The cavern should be a welcomed break from the heat we've had this summer.
We will plan on meeting outside the main entrance to the visitor center at 11:30 and then head to the picnic table area (seen on the map). We hope to have a couple of people arriving earlier to help find a picnic table and setup. If you arrive after 11:30am, look for us around the picnic table areas - you shouldn't be able to miss the bright orange shirts. You are welcome to arrive earlier or stay later if you want to hike around the park on your own. If you do not plan on joining the picnic, plan on arriving for the tour check-in at approximately 12:30pm.
Let's show off our pack and plan on wearing our Class B shirts. If you are new to the pack and need one, please see the online store or contact one of the pack leaders.
Details from Longhorn Caverns is below. We have 2 time slots (1:00pm and 1:15pm) reserved with a maximum of 30 attendees per time-slot. Please sign up for a tour time on the SignUpGenius page to help facilitate our check-in. The goal is the have similar size groups so we may adjust the groups a little when we are there.
Dress comfortably and wear closed-toe shoes with good traction. Parts of the trail can be wet depending on recent rainfall.
Guests will be walking/standing for approximately 90 minutes.
There are 52 stone steps down to the cavern entrance and back up again.
Depending on guest height, ducking may be required at several points on the tour. The two lowest points along the tour route are 4' 4" and 4' 8".
Due to the historic nature of Longhorn Cavern State Park, visitor facilities and cavern walkways are not wheelchair accessible.
Only trained service animals as defined by the ADA are permitted to enter the cavern or park buildings. Pets must be attended at all times; do not leave pets alone in vehicles.
We will probably have some basic picnic foods like sandwiches, chips, and fruit along with some drinks (probably water and juice boxes). Feel free to bring along any other snacks you would like.
HOW TO PAY:
Your payment covers admission to the tour and food. You can pay through Paypal on this page. If you prefer to pay via a different method, please contact one of the leaders to discuss other options. Please don't forget to sign up for a time slot on the SignUpGenius page.
